You will find a great variety of easy, intermediate, and difficult slopes at Taos Ski Valley, all accessible from eight lifts! The prices at Taos are reasonable, and you will find that the snow on this big mountain is usually in good condition. Angel Fire is another option, not far from Taos. This mountain is a bit smaller than Taos, but it has a front side and back side that keep the crowds manageable. Along with the handful of challenging black diamonds and long, pleasant greens, this mountain is full of wonderful intermediate runs. The town of Angel Fire is quiet and pleasant, which makes this a perfect mountain for families. Angel Fire also has extremely affordable prices. As for Santa Fe, it adds one thing to its skiing that Taos and Angel Fire do not: activities for the time when you are not skiing! While Taos and Angel Fire are both small villages that have grown up around the skiing, Santa Fe was in place long before the skiing came. Even if the skiing in Santa Fe – although, of course, still excellent – is not as excellent as what you will find in Angel Fire and Taos, the availibility of extra activities just might make it the perfect destination for you. Consider avoiding the bitter cold and the huge crowds of Colorado next time you are planning a Rocky Mountain ski vacation, and instead head for the pleasant slopes of New Mexico. Who knows, you might even find yourself wishing you made the switch a whole lot sooner!
